Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram believes Pakistan will put up a strong fight against a dominant India when the two rivals face off in the Asia Cup 2025 clash in Dubai this Sunday. The highly-anticipated encounter has already created global buzz, with tickets sold out well in advance. India, the defending champions, enter the tournament in supreme form, having won 18 out of their last 21 T20 internationals since lifting the World Cup. Their crushing nine-wicket win over hosts UAE in the opening game underlined their dominance. Pakistan, however, come into the Asia Cup with confidence after clinching a tri-series victory against Afghanistan and UAE. Speaking to Telecom Asia Sport, Wasim said, “India may look stronger on paper, but Pakistan have the confidence of their recent series win and can give tough competition.” He praised new captain Salman Agha and coach Mike Hesson, stressing that the young side needs time to gel but should not be judged on immediate results. The former skipper highlighted concerns around Mohammad Haris, who has struggled since his century against Bangladesh. Wasim suggested Haris should return to his natural role as an opener, instead of batting in the middle order. He also warned against relying on part-time bowlers, insisting Pakistan must field five proper bowlers to avoid pressure on the batting lineup. Akram praised India’s depth, crediting their high-performance setup, IPL structure, and world-class facilities. He also lauded Jasprit Bumrah, calling him one of the best pacers of the modern era. With India arriving as favorites and Pakistan fielding a promising yet untested side, fans worldwide eagerly await the Pakistan vs India Asia Cup 2025 showdown. According to Akram, Pakistan’s fighting spirit could make this clash one for the ages.
