Pakistan and the United States have successfully concluded Inspired Gambit-2026, a two-week joint military exercise that highlights renewed momentum in defence cooperation and counterterrorism coordination between the two countries.
The exercise, held from January 8 to January 16, brought together troops from both armies at Pakistan’s National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Pabbi. According to a statement released by the US Central Command (Centcom), the drills focused on enhancing operational readiness to deal with evolving security threats.
Centcom said the joint training placed strong emphasis on infantry skills, advanced tactical maneuvers, and counterterrorism operations. Soldiers from both sides worked closely to sharpen their response techniques, improve coordination on the battlefield, and exchange real-world operational experience.
Officials noted that the exercise helped strengthen mutual trust, interoperability, and practical cooperation, especially in complex counterterrorism scenarios that require quick decision-making and seamless coordination.
Inspired Gambit-2026 marked the 13th edition of the joint exercise series, which has been conducted regularly since 1995. Defence analysts say the continuity of these drills reflects a long-standing military relationship that has endured shifting political dynamics over the decades.
Despite ups and downs in broader diplomatic ties, military-to-military engagement has remained a key pillar of cooperation between Islamabad and Washington.
A Distinguished Visitors’ Day was held on January 15, attended by US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, senior US military officials, and the Commander of Rawalpindi Corps. The visitors were briefed on the objectives, scope, and outcomes of the exercise.
Live demonstrations showcased the professionalism, discipline, and operational competence of troops from both armies, earning praise from the visiting delegation.
US officials described Inspired Gambit as adding a new dimension to bilateral defence ties, stressing the importance of sustained engagement to address shared security challenges. Pakistani officials echoed the view, saying such exercises help refine procedures, improve interoperability, and boost regional stability.
As security threats continue to evolve, the successful completion of Inspired Gambit-2026 signals that Pakistan and the US remain committed to cooperation where interests align, particularly in counterterrorism and regional security.
