Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and newly appointed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Asim Munir, has delivered a firm warning to India, urging New Delhi not to underestimate Pakistan’s military strength or determination.
Speaking at a guard of honour ceremony at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Monday, Field Marshal Munir made it clear that any future confrontation would be met with a quicker and stronger response. “Next time, Pakistan’s reply will be even faster and more intense,” he said, addressing officers from all three armed services.
The ceremony marked a historic moment as Asim Munir formally assumed charge as Pakistan’s first-ever Chief of Defence Forces, a role created to enhance coordination and strategic planning across the military.
In his address, Field Marshal Munir highlighted the importance of the newly established Defence Forces Headquarters, calling it a major step toward strengthening national security. He said Pakistan faces an evolving threat environment that requires closer coordination, joint planning, and multi-domain operations.
He explained that while the Army, Navy, and Air Force will continue to function independently, the new command structure will help synchronise operations and decision-making during critical situations.
“With unified top command, the three armed forces will retain their internal autonomy and organisational structures,” he noted, stressing that the new system is meant to enhance efficiency, not replace existing command chains.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, the Field Marshal said Islamabad seeks regional stability, but not at the cost of its sovereignty. “No one will be allowed to undermine our territorial integrity or challenge our resolve,” he said.
He also spoke about Pakistan’s position regarding the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan, stating that Islamabad has delivered a clear message. According to him, the Taliban must choose between standing with Pakistan or siding with extremist elements he referred to as Khawarjis.
Concluding his speech on a patriotic note, Field Marshal Munir declared, “The concept of Pakistan is invincible, protected by brave soldiers and a united nation. Long live Pakistan.”
The ceremony was attended by top military leadership, including Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar. Contingents from the Army, Navy, and Air Force presented a formal guard of honour, underlining the unity of the armed forces.
