Islamabad: The Pakistan Navy has demonstrated its growing maritime strength by conducting a large-scale combat exercise in the North Arabian Sea, featuring live missile firings, unmanned systems, and coordinated naval operations. The high-intensity drills showcased the Navy’s readiness to counter modern threats and protect Pakistan’s maritime interests in a rapidly evolving regional security environment.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the exercise involved both conventional warfighting platforms and advanced autonomous technologies, reflecting the Navy’s shift toward modern, technology-driven naval warfare.
One of the most significant moments of the exercise was the successful test firing of the LY-80(N) Surface-to-Air Missile from a vertical launching system onboard a naval platform. The missile accurately engaged and destroyed an aerial target at extended range, validating Pakistan Navy’s long-range air defence capabilities.
Officials said the successful engagement proved the Navy’s ability to respond swiftly to aerial threats, including hostile aircraft and drones. The test also highlighted the effectiveness of integrated combat systems designed to defend naval assets in contested maritime zones.
The exercise also featured loitering munitions, which precisely struck designated surface targets during live-fire trials. These weapons, often referred to as “kamikaze drones,” demonstrated high accuracy and effectiveness, reinforcing their role in modern naval combat and asymmetric warfare.
In addition, Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) underwent extensive open-sea trials. The USVs displayed impressive speed, maneuverability, endurance, and resilience in challenging sea conditions. ISPR noted that these platforms provide low-risk, high-impact operational options while offering stealth and tactical flexibility.
The Commander Pakistan Fleet personally observed the drills, which tested joint operational coordination across multiple platforms. The exercise focused on real-time decision-making, integrated command systems, and seamless communication between manned and unmanned assets.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf praised the officers and sailors for their professionalism and operational competence. He reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to safeguarding Pakistan’s maritime borders and ensuring the security of vital sea lanes.
The exercise underscores Pakistan Navy’s determination to maintain maritime security and keep pace with technological advancements. With growing regional challenges, the drills send a clear message about Pakistan’s preparedness, deterrence capability, and focus on future-ready naval defence.
