HARARE: Pakistan’s Under-19 team pulled off a thrilling last-over victory against Afghanistan in the second match of the ongoing tri-nation series in Zimbabwe, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.
After winning the toss, Pakistan chose to field first a decision that paid off. Afghanistan were bowled out for 226 runs, thanks largely to a strong bowling spell by Usman Khan, who picked up four key wickets and kept the Afghan batting lineup under pressure.
Despite a few solid partnerships, Afghanistan struggled to accelerate in the final overs and fell short of setting a bigger total.
Chasing 227, Pakistan’s innings was anything but smooth. Early wickets put the team on the back foot, and the pressure kept building as wickets continued to fall. At one point, Pakistan were nine wickets down for 201 runs, with defeat looking almost certain.
That’s when Hamza Zahoor stepped up.
Hamza Zahoor played a calm and mature innings, remaining unbeaten on 68, anchoring the chase under immense pressure. Captain Farhan Yousuf also made a vital contribution with a fighting 65 runs, keeping Pakistan in the contest.
In the final moments, Hamza and Naqab Shafiq stitched together a sensational last-wicket partnership, guiding Pakistan home with three balls to spare.
The victory not only showcased Pakistan’s fighting spirit but also highlighted the depth and resilience of its young talent. Winning such a close contest will give the team a major confidence boost as the tri-nation series progresses.
